Teach For America—Las Vegas Valley To Support Nevada's First Institute On Teaching And Educator Preparation
Teach For America—Las Vegas Valley’s mission is to find, develop, and support a diverse network of leaders who expand opportunity for children from classrooms, schools, and every sector and field that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate. Our approach involves finding promising leaders and developing and cultivating their leadership skills and mindsets to encourage systematic change, first through classroom teaching and then throughout their lifetime as a part of our network. In support of this approach, Teach For America—Las Vegas Valley is thrilled to contribute to the State of Nevada’s Institute On Teaching and Educator Preparation.
Teach For America has been a proud partner with the Nevada community for 13 years. Our nearly 500 corps members and alumni teach in more than 50 schools across the Las Vegas Valley, and make an impact as learning strategists, school leaders, non-profit founders, business leaders, politicians, and more. We are proud to work with the state to ensure that our education system meets the needs of our communities, and offers every student the chance to receive an excellent education and the opportunities that come with it.
This partnership was made possible by a nearly $5 million anonymous donation, recently introduced Senate Bill 548, which would provide a $1 million grant from the state, and an additional $1 million from an institution of higher learning.
